Gastown has always been an area in flux, but never moreso than now. With the wealthy rubbing shoulders with the homeless, new residents mixed with lifelong diehards, and the ever-constant conflict between new money and old, Gastown is the quintessential mixing pot that encapsulates life on the west coast – and specifically Vancouver’s downtown core.
Our lens, their stories
Sun reporter Andrea Woo and videographer Mark Yuen spent several months walking the streets of Gastown, talking to strangers and hearing their stories, before committing to putting them on online and in print in a series that reveals the multiple personalities that make up Gastown.
